Transforming Urban Living through Synergies of Smart Industries, Smart Transportation, and Smart Healthcare

 

Smart industries, smart transportation, and smart healthcare are critical pillars for the development of smart cities. Smart industries leverage automation, IoT, and AI to enhance productivity, drive economic growth, and foster innovation. Smart transportation optimizes mobility by integrating intelligent systems, reducing congestion, and promoting sustainable modes of transportation. Smart healthcare ensures accessible and personalized care through telemedicine, remote monitoring, and data analytics, improving health outcomes and operational efficiency. These interconnected domains promote sustainability, efficiency, and improved quality of life, positioning smart cities as hubs of innovation, economic competitiveness, and enhanced well-being for their residents. However, the development of smart industries, smart transportation, and smart healthcare in smart cities poses several key technological research challenges.

 

The key research challenges include data integration and interoperability, cybersecurity, and privacy, scalability and scalable infrastructure, connectivity and network reliability, advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning, formulation of regulatory and policy frameworks, emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability, and ensuring user acceptance and adoption. Overcoming these challenges through rigorous research and innovation is crucial to realizing the full potential of smart cities and creating sustainable, efficient, and inclusive urban environments that benefit industries, transportation systems, healthcare services, and the overall well-being of residents.

 

Authors are expected to submit experimental, conceptual, and theoretical contributions based on distinct techniques for addressing the aforementioned challenges.

 

Potential topics of this special issue include but are not limited to:

·       Blockchain-enabled data sharing and secure transactions in smart city environments

·       Predictive analytics for resource allocation and demand forecasting

·       Human-centric design and user experience in smart interfaces

·       Augmented reality and virtual reality applications in smart cities

·       Privacy-preserving data analytics for healthcare diagnostics and monitoring.

·       Smart grid technologies for efficient energy management in smart cities.

·       Intelligent transportation systems for real-time traffic management and congestion reduction.

·       Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and data analytics for smart waste management in cities

·       Telemedicine and remote healthcare delivery systems for improved access to care.

Dr. Rutvij H. Jhaveri (Senior Member, IEEE) is an experienced educator and researcher working in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar, India. He conducted his Postdoctoral Research at Delta-NTU Corporate Lab for Cyber-Physical Systems, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He completed his PhD in Computer Engineerng in 2016. In 2017, he was awarded with prestigious Pedagogical Innovation Award by Gujarat Technological University. Currently, he is co-investigating a funded project from GUJCOST. He was ranked among top 2% scientists around the world in 2022 and 2021. He has 2900+ Google Scholar citations with h-index 28. Apart from serving as an editor/ guest editor in various journals of repute, he also serves as a reviewer in several international journals and also as an advisory/TPC member in renowned international conferences. Heauthored 145+ articles including the IEEE/ACM Transactions and flagship IEEE/ACM conferences. Moreover, he has several national and international patents and, copyrights to his name. He also possesses memberships of various technical bodies such as ACM, CSI, ISTE and others. He is a member of the Advisory Board in Symbiosis Institute of Digital and Telecom Management, and other reputed universities since 2022. He is an editorial board member in several Springer and Hindawi journals. He also served as a committee member in "Smart Village Project" - Government of Gujarat, at the district level during the year 2017.

The Special Session on Business Intelligence: AI Applications in Business aims to provide a comprehensive exploration of the intersection between artificial intelligence and business operations. The main objectives of this session are to foster a deeper understanding of how AI technologies can enhance decision-making processes, improve efficiency, and drive innovation within the business world. By bringing together experts and professionals in this field, the session seeks to create a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. The expected outcomes include a better grasp of AI's potential in optimizing business processes, insights into real-world AI applications, and the identification of challenges and best practices.

Dr. Noura Metawa is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the College of Business Administration at University of Sharjah, UAE. Dr. Metawa has received many universities distinguished research awards for the years 2022, 2021, 2020 and 2019 for her high ranked published work. In addition to receiving the “Regis University scholarship award” for the year 2019 for the best published book, awarded by Regis University, USA. Dr. Metawa has worked at the University of New Orleans, USA, Regis University, USA “working under extraordinary ability visa (O1-visa)” and Mansoura University, Egypt (ranked 101 world-wide THE) . Collectively, Dr. Metawa authored/co-authored over “30” ISI Journal articles in high-ranked and prestigious journals such as Economics Analysis and Policy, International Journal of Information Management (Elsevier), Information Systems and e-Business Management (Springer) and Expert Systems with Applications (Elsevier) and International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management (Emerald). Besides, Dr. Metawa authored/edited 3 international books (published by Springer, and Taylor& Francis). In addition, Dr. Metawa is an active member of prestigious finance associations such as Financial Management association (FMA), Southern Finance Association annual meetings (SFA) and Academy of Financial Services meetings (AFS) in the years 2014 to present.
